OK. I am getting ready to do my first rescue. I just received the
below email message and am waiting for the owner to contact me by
phone. Any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated or if we know
of a home that can handle his special needs let me know.
Thanks,
Sheila, Dutchy, and Taz (who are anxiously awaiting news on this
puppy. :))
<<Hi I have a 10 month old, red male. He is a one person dog. He is very

Mateo is going to be going to my Vet on Thrusday with one of my other
Min Pins. My vet is only charging $16.00 for this visit. I also get
a discount on any service that the vet does.
I am getting anxious about picking up Mateo this afternoon after I get
off work. It kind of feels like bringing home a new "baby". My
husband is curious as to what a red Min Pin looks like. He has only
seen a black and tan and a black and rust (our own and another couple
in our neighborhood has two minpins.)
I will post more this eveing.

Mateo is here and adjusting well. He loves playing with my other two
Min Pins. Dutchy has already told him who is boss. Teresa in NC is
going to call me tonight to get more deatils on him. He is a very
bright guy. He stands about 13 inches at the shoulder. I think he is
adorable. He is timid around people until he gets to know them. He
loves riding in cars, he just sits in the back seat and behaves
himself better than most kids would. When I take him to the vet on
Thursday, I am buying him a harness. His owners had him on a choker
chain. He seems to be a happy and healthy boy. He doesn't act like
he is having any health problems.
I will take some pictures while Mateo is here.

Just a little note to let everyone know how Mateo is doing. Mateo
and Taz decided last night that they wanted to play at 2 am. Both my
husband and I had to get up at 5 am. I tried to get them to calm
down. The only thing that worked for Taz was putting him in the big
bed. Mateo still wanted to play in the big bed. My husband spent the
rest of the night on the couch. Mateo eventually fell asleep when he
realized that no one was going to play. Mateo is an adorable boy who
loves to play with other dogs.
My belief is that he was trying to play with the previous owners
grandmother. Mateo never even once tried to bite me, my husband, or
my two babies. One thing I found odd was that when the owner met me,
she not once should any emotion that she was going to miss him. So I
thnik that the owner may have realized that she couldn't handle a Min
Pin and their personality.
I will take some pictures this eveing.

Mateo went on his first walk tonight and did exceptionally well in the
behavior department. He obeyed my very command on the long walk.
I have to go pay attention to all three puppies.

Well I'm off to Maryland tomorrow to pick up Mateo and bring him to his new
home tomorrow. Sheila says his vet visit went well and he is a healthy little
boy. I'm so excited about it that I'm sure I won't be able to sleep tonight.
I'll keep everyone informed on how he is doing once we get back and settled
in.
Glad everyone in FL made it through the storm.

After a long drive yesterday, Mateo is now home in NC. A BIG Thank you to
Sheila and her gang for taking such good care of him. He seems to be
adjusting really well. Once he got settled into his bed last night, he slept
thru the night only getting up once. He follows Harley all around the house,
and Harley is a bit unsure of Mateo at this point.
Mateo is the rescue with the high liver enzymes, so if anyone has experience
or advice on dealing with this, please pass it along.
Thanks,

Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you know that Mateo is adjusting well to his
new home. In fact, he has quickly become the boss. Poor Harley is hiding in
his crate (which he hated before) and hiding behind chairs to keep Mateo away.
I hope things get better soon between them. Mateo will actually chase Harley
into a corner and then sit there in front of him so he can't get back out.
Mateo goes to the vet tomorrow to be neutered and I'll find out what I need to
do to keep his high liver enzymes in check. Wish us luck!

I brought Mateo home from the vet this morning, and he is doing fine. He's
snoozing on the bed right now. There were some complications during the
surgery, but everything turned out alright (BIG sigh of relief!) He's going
to stay on the lactulose medicine, but I'm going to try feeding him Eukabana
instead of the prescription food he was on and keep a close eye on him. The
vet said that vomiting and seizures were signs I needed to lookout for. Has
anyone heard of this being symptoms associated with liver problems?

Rescue in DC
Lately, he has been showing a lot of aggression towards other people
and has attempted to bite my grandmother- we live with her.
In August, he had liver surgery. he cannot tolerate a lot of protein
in his system, so is on Hill's k/d and a little bit of Pro Plan - Puppy Food.
I would like to find him a good home w/ a MinPin person that knows his
history and can work w/ him. If not then, he will have to be put down.
Thank you
