Hi Susan!,
Another little boy needing a home:
Date: Fri, 11 Sep 1998 11:54:28 -0700
A vet near downtown Los Angeles has a pure bred red six-month-old (or
so) Miniature Pinscher for adoption.
Here are the particulars on the dog: Owner came in with dog and
abandoned it. Dog fell out of a window and broke a bone (which vet
repaired), docked the tail and cropped the ears at the request of the
client. Client abandoned dog and puppy is at the vet's hospital.
The vet would like to recoup some of his expenses. He would like to
recouperate $300.00 of his expenses. The dog will be neutered prior to
placement.
Please e-mail if you are interested. Vet is open during the week and
half a day on Saturdays. He is only asking for a portion of what the
bill is. He would like to place this dog in a loving and happy home.

-----Original Message-----
Oh, thank you for your swift response. The dog belongs to a vet I know
who did the leg surgery, cropped the ears, docked the tail, and will
neuter the dog prior to placement.
He is safe where he is right now, unless you want to foster him
yourself. He is at Huntington Park Dog and Cat Hospital. The vet's
name is Dr. Ben Alegado. His assistant's name is a man named Adrian.
The phone number is listed in the phone book. I have his business card
in the car. He is located in the 213 or new 323 area code by calling
213/555-1212. I'm sorry. I am so late that I don't have time to go to
the car to get the number. If you get stuck, I can get the number for
you later.
Late for work. Hope you understand. The dog is a cute min pin. He is
darling and sweet, of course.

Terri and fellow listers, this e mail went to christy who works for the irvine
animal shelter. she is the one who placed the ad on the message boards. the
vet will hold the dog and not just give it away to anyone. he is waiting for
christy to help find it a good home. i spoke with her on the telephone today.
christy works 30 minutes away from me, so if the need arises, i can easily get
the dog from her to foster. but i think liz had a response from anaheim, ca
which is 30 min away also. the logistics are perfect. christy is having the
dog neutered this week, so if the anaheim family is approved, then they could
have him later this week.
the dog has been there for at least 2 weeks because by law the vet has to send
a certified letter trying to notify the owner. the owners dropped the dog off
to have ears cropped and tail done, then abandoned him.

hi all, the family that liz informed me about that lives in anaheim, ca have
already gotten a min pin.
so if there is anyone out there interested please contact me.

Good work Sabrina ! I figured the vet would listen to reason or at least
come to his senses.

You guys are so great, Anita Peoples offered $100.00 toward the rescue of this
little guy, I appreciate that and your offer. I was telling Sabrina that we
had an unexpected car repair today, so it would be minimum of 2 weeks before I
could do anything. Thanks so much for helping out, I appreciate it.

Hi all,
So far Red has had a bath. Sorry Red, you had to have it cus you smelled!!!
(He peed on himself in the crate) He didn't like the bath, had me and
everything else soaking wet by the time we were done.
I fed him at the same time as bebe and pepper and all went well. I put bebe
and pepper with their food in the regular spot and put red with his food on
the other side. He ate like he was starving. I am surprised Bebe and Pepper
let him eat in peace.
Bebe got a drink of water and Red decided he wanted a drink too. Bebe just let
him drink. I was so proud of her.
They have been circling each other and running around checking each other out.
They are all fitting in pretty well. Red is running around with leaps of joy.
He can't get over all this new freedom.
He must be the pure red because pepper looks beige brown next to him. I
already have his health certificate, rabies cert and vaccination records.
He is already a loving dog. he knows his name. i talk to him and he seems to
know it. he doesn't mind getting up on my lap and when he barks and i tell him
No he seems to listen. He keeps coming up to me at the computer and seems to
want in my lap. i may have to get his nails clipped. they are so long they
curl under and when he wants my attention, they are scraping me.
I might take him to pet smart today to get the crate, a collar and leash.
He is really being playfull with bebe and pepper. I am so glad about this.
Jeanesse is getting a good little dog.
Now for my other adventure of the morning.
well gotta go. i have to take red to get is nails clipped if i can get him in
and buy him some presents!!! i will post more later.
Sat, 19 Sep 1998 13:13:41 EDT - from Sabrina
hi all,
he was such a good boy. for being caged up for so long i thought he might have
some problems. he likes everything and everyone so far. you can tell he isn't
used to getting walked because on the leash he is like a yo yo. but then bebe
and pepper are too. LOL!! He is a good traveler in the car. i had him in the
crate when i picked him up from christy. didn't even wimper. for the trip to
pet smart he sat in the front seat like a good boy.
he seems to mind too. i tell him NO then it's like he's coming over to
apoligize. after i tell him no, he comes right over to me and starts pawing at
me for affection.
wonder what will happen when "daddy" gets home. i think bebe and pepper might
be jealous then.
Sat, 19 Sep 1998 18:21:28 EDT - from Jeanese
Hi All,
I'm also glad to hear that the dogs are not tearing each other apart, because
this little guy will have a brother and sister when he gets here too. It
sounds as though he will probably be bigger than my two, Sammy, 2 years, about
7 lbs and Sunny, 1 year, about 6 lbs. So he should be able to hold his own.
My two are black and rust, so a red dog will be a good addition. I'm planning
on getting one of those connectors that will walk three dogs on one leash.
Red (although I may change that, what does everyone think?) can be in the
middle because he is bigger and a different color, it should look pretty cool.
Wendy Boyette was nice enough to help with airline reservations, so I'm going
to make Red's flight reservations tonight, he should be leaving San Diego at
8:30AM next Sunday and arriving in Seattle at 11:13AM. He will be traveling
counter to counter on Alaska Airlines. So Sabrina gets to love this little
one up for a week, I hope this goes well for her, it sounds as though it's off
to a good start.
Thank you all for you good wishes and support regarding Red and his journey
into his "new life." I couldn't have done it this quickly without your help.
I'll post later as things progress.

their world next Sunday)
Sun, 20 Sep 1998 09:39:32 EDT - from Sabrina
hi jeanesse, and fellow listers,
All dogs went potty at midnight. Red doesn't know any words yet except NO, but
I am trying to teach him Potty. He doesn't want to go outside much at night. I
put him out at 5:00 this morning and he was pawing at the door to come right
back in. a little later i noticed that he might want to go potty so I put him
out. Lo and behold yes he did have to go!!!
He has taken over Bebe and Pepper's dog bed. I put him in it yesterday
afternoon and he loves it. stayed in it almost all the time till bed time.
This morning pepper was in the bed and red was eyeing him for it. but bebe and
pepper wanted to go in the living room so red ended up getting the bed all to
himself. he is cuddled in the bed right beside me at the computer at my feet.
He is so loving. he paws at you to get in your lap. Today all of us are going
on a walk together. That will be fun.
I just can't get over how good he is. Have to keep saying it!!! No problems
for being caged up for so long.
Thu, 24 Sep 1998 10:43:19 EDT - from Sabrina
hi everyone, just an update on how Red is doing.
He is fitting in well around here. Pepper seems to get irritated with him.
Maybe it's because they're both males? I thought Bebe would be the one that
wouldn't like another dog in the house. It isn't too bad though. mostly when
Red is getting jealous of bebe or pepper. then pepper gets mad at him. Yes Red
is already jealous.
He is even sleeping in the bed with us now. The first two nights he was in his
crate. not even a wimper out of him. Then the first night in the bed he was in
the bed most of the night then got antsy so he went in the crate. Last night
he slept in the bed all night with us and was such a good boy.
Hubby is attached already. wants to keep him. Sorry, hubby, you had your
chance!!! Plus i just don't want to have 3 dogs in a condo. He's the happiest
little guy. Loves Bebe and Pepper's fleece dog bed and all their toys. Loves
to fetch a ball or squeek toy. He paws at me and wants in my lap and looks at
me with those EYES. I just melt. The only time he barks is when he is jealous.
Jeanesse and her family will be getting a very special dog. I think Red will
fit into their family well. Sunday will be a sad day for me but a happy one
for Jeanesse.
MIRACLES OF MIRACLES!! Red and Pepper are in the dog bed together. I love it.

hi jeanesse, red will make you feel all better when you see him. I have been
crying even though i know he will have a good home. it's funny how quick you
get attached to pets. the 2nd day i loved him. robert loves him too. but when
something happens to one of my dogs I'm going to TRY to only have one after
that.
Red knows how to sleep in the bed now. so i don't know if you will have him in
the bed or not, but he is good in the bed. tomorrow my friend and i are taking
all 3 dogs on a walk and I'm going to get some film so she can take some pics
of me and red and the dogs.

Hey list -
Well, some interesting things have happened over the past
day and both parties wanted me to report it to you. Here's the scoop -
Everyone knew it was tough on Sabrina to send Red to his new home.
Jeanese felt absolutely so miserable about Sabrina and Robert and the
pain they were going through having to give up Red. After a couple of
ICQ chats and a telephone call or two, the decision was made by Jeanese
and her husband to give Red to Sabrina.
The pain on both sides for Jeanese and Sabrina is
unthinkable, but, the question was asked, What was best for Red.
Obviously Sabrina had fallen in love with her first foster and was
heartbroken over the loss. She had the courage though to live up to her
side of the bargain and send him to his new home even though her heart
felt otherwise. Jeanese felt that she was taking Red because there were
no other offers for homes and she wanted to do her part by giving him
one. She too loves little Red and the decision to send him back was a
very long HARD one to make. She and her husband thought that he would be
better off in the home that loved him first.
I think both of them deserve Angel wings for loving Red
enough to see through the pain and make a decision for the little rascal
that steals humans hearts. Please help Jeanese through her loss and
welcome Red to Sabrina and Roberts Min Pin Menagerie.
I don't think Red knows how lucky he is.....

Hi Everyone,
This whole thing has been verrrrrrrrry hard on me. I think I will be lurking
for awhile while I try and get my emotions in control. I am sending the
donation money to Petie this week and if I happen to recieve anymore checks, I
will forward them to her. Thanks for everyone's support. This was one of the
hardest decisions I have ever had to make!!! Red will be very loved in his
home.
Jeanese (sad and on the verge of tears)
Mon, 28 Sep 1998 11:15:37 EDT - from Sabrina
Hi all,
We chatted online when Red got to her house and we both were still in misery.
Then Dawn called Jeanesse on the phone to decipher her true feelings on the
matter. Yes Jeanesse wanted to keep Red but was mostly worried about me. I
said ok Red will stay with Jeanesse with my blessings.
In the end Jeanesse and her husband decided I might have the better home in
the long run for 3 dogs because of our lifestyles.
The both of us have gone through hell and back over this decision. I feel
liked i failed at my first and only rescue attempt.
needless to say, my short rescue career is over. I cannot do it.
I really feel that i am the bad guy here. Jeanesse is a special lady who is
truly concerned about my feelings.
We both loved Red enough to give him back to each other, and that is the
bottom line.
Mon, 28 Sep 1998 12:01:16 EDT - from Jeanese
Sabrina,
Red is at the airport waiting to go home, he didn't want to get into his
crate, infact it was on the scale and he tipped it trying to get out. I had
to take him out and get everything set again. That gave me a chance to kiss
him goodbye, I didn't do that the first time I put him in the crate. He slept
in my arms last night... Please take good care of him and at any point if you
cannot keep him please send him back to me. My male was getting used to him
this morning, but my female was still pretty upset that he was here. That cat
was ready to move out : )
Please send me some good pictures via snail mail. If you could enlarge one to
5x7 that would be most appreciated, I want to frame it. Please don't forget
to do this.
Please let me know how he is doing today once he gets there, he was pawing at
his left (I beleive) ear this morning so please keep an eye on it.
I kept his bone tag, I figured there was no use sending it back, plus I wanted
it.
Still in agonizing pain over this decision.
Love,

hi all, Red is back home and bebe and pepper seemed to accept him right away
again. they have all been pretty darn mellow today. All 3 are konked out right
now. Red is in bebe and pepper's dog bed. he seemed to take over the bed from
the beginning!!!
He has even shared his doggie bones that jeanesse sent home with him.
I am renaming him Rusty. it is the only masculine name i can think of for a
red male dog. if anyone has any suggestions for a name, i would love to hear
them.

hi listers,
after a week of deciding to rename Red to Rusty, I think i will finally do it.
He just does not look like a Red to me and the name Red doesn't have any
personality. It is kind of sad to rename him especially after the whole "Red
Saga" but i have to call him this name for many many years and i think we will
be happy with Rusty.
i have also updated lucky's, lister's, and rusty's pictures on the imps post
card page, and added scrappy and sassy. there are so many new rescues and i
need pictures! these are a few of the dogs i need pics of:

Sat, 17 Oct 1998 18:07:41 EDT - from Sabrina
hi all,
took him to pet smart and he was acting like bebe. he barked at another dog
and at a lady. his hair was standing up. don't know why he was barking at
them, they were minding their own business! That's a min pin for ya. but i
hope he isn't going to be that kind of dog because bebe is a terrorist.
He hasn't gotten the hang of letting us know when he has to go "out" yet. we
just let him out alot. we tell him "potty" at the door then let him out. he
goes outside fine, but still goes inside without letting us know he wants to
go out. I keep him in the kitchen if he hasn't been out for awhile, and if he
has been out and pottied, he can run around the house for awhile. I put him
back and forth until i get to where i can trust him.
He is giving bebe and pepper a run for their money. mostly pepper, maybe cus
pepper is another boy. he wants to wrestle and play but pepper is a big couch
potatoe!!! Red and bebe seem to get along a little better. But all 3 are
settling in pretty darn good. Red is just acting like the puppy that he is!!!
Two things i have noticed since we got Red - bebe and pepper used to potty in
the kitchen area that i block off for them when i went to work. now bebe and
pepper don't potty anymore but red does. i know because bebe and pepper used
to go on this special towel i kept in there for them. and red has his own area
that he goes. maybe bebe and pepper realize now that it is not cool to go
potty in there!!!
also, bebe most always had to go potty about 1:30 - 2:00 am now she lasts
through the night. ever since she started taking phenobarbital for her
seizures i think it made her have to go potty more. but since we got Red, she
lasts the night. Red lasts the whole night too and that is a good thing. just
two things i have noticed since we got red.
We just love him to death, he is a good lovable little guy. i love his adoring
eyes. his eyes are unusual. do most red min pins have the gold eyes?

gotta rush off to work now.
i spoke to the vet this morning about "RED" that's his name. He will take $250
for the dog. red has already been neutered. Jeanesse who lives in washington
is interested, but wanted to know about payments. the vet will not take
payments.
hopefully we can place him soon. sabrina

I just spoke to Dr Ben Alegado the vet in LA who has Red and he is all
paid for. The nice Dr took plastic which made it much easier as I was
worried about getting him a check by the week end.
He was very nice and totally intrigued that I lived in NYC, the dog was
going to Washington State and Sabrina lived an hour away.....I explained it
all to him and he still could hardly believe it. He asked me to thank
everyone and said it made his day:-)

I get to pick Red up tomorrow morning!!! I am so excited! Petie handled the
financial arrangements with the vet today and christy is bringing Red home
with her tonite and i will meet her tomorrow morning by 7:00 to get the little
guy.
sabrina
Don't get excited!LOL I mailed Sabrina with the times and flight numbers to
get the puppy to Seattle. It is only a 2 1/2 hour flight, direct from San
Diego on Alaska Airlines(They bought out Northwest Airlines). They have a
counter to counter service called Gold Seal that only costs $105.00 and this
is how they are sending him. I told them all about Health Certificates etc so
he should be with Jeanese pretty soon. It was wonderful of you to help them
out with the VET. I told them the least he could do is give them a Health
Certificate for him to fly.Lets hope all goes well with all our rescues.

well, i have had an adventure this morning. I went to meet Christy to pick up
Red. He is all legs, tall and gangly, kind of skinny i can see his ribs. At 6
mo.s old he is as big as bebe and pepper already, but thin, I think he is
going to be a BIG boy. I don't know what the vet was feeding him so I am
feeding him pepper's food. It's Nutros Regular with some canned food mixed in.
The girl who i got Red from, Christy, found and abandoned pit bull puppy. she
kept him at her house last night. the animal shelter that she works for will
not let her bring in strays. and she didn't want to take it to another shelter
because Irvine is less apt to euthanize. so I had to take the pit bull with
me too, go to a gas station and call the police to report the lost puppy. In
the mean time the puppy did a big ol' poop in the back seat and started to
chew my sheepskin seat covers.
The police came in 5 minutes and they will take him to the shelter that
Christy works at so all will be well. That was the cutest puppy!!
It's a good thing I work for kimberly clark paper products because i had a
stock of baby wipes and paper towels in the car. (we get that stuff free all
the time) they sure came in handy this morning.

Red's first outing
Red has had his first outing to Pet Smart. I got him the crate for the flight
and a royal blue collar, harness and leash and a chew bone. Also had his nails
cut at pet smart. still sharp though!!! :-(
He's such a good boy!!!! Jeanesse will be so happy.
will keep ya posted, sabrina
I got through all the e-mails that sabrina posted today regarding "our" little
boy. I'm glad she is taking such great care of him.
Red had a good night. I was really worried about what would happen at beddy
bye time. Red didn't want to stay on the bed (and we have a high dual king bed
for the 4 of us!) so I put him in his crate. was worried he would whine or
bark. Nope, not a peep all night long. I can't get over how good he is. Hubby
even commented on how good he was in the crate.

Thanks for the e-mail regarding Red. I can't wait untill he get here. I
caught one hell of a cold and am feeling miserable!!!!

you all do not know all of the agonizing pain Jeanesse and I have gone through
over Red. Yesterday she and I were in tears all day long. Her because she was
worried about My pain. Me because i just missed Red. I gave up Red because he
was her dog not mine. The morning of the flight she called to ask me if i was
sure I wanted to let Red go. It was too late though, because we were already
home from the airport.
I hope you all can understand this whole mess. And won't be too hard on me.

Red had his heartworm test today, negative thank goodness. he will start the
preventative nov. 1 along with bebe and pepper. he has gained 2 pounds
already! in two weeks! he still looks boney though. you can still see his ribs
and he has a really boney butt. He also got microchipped. It was 25.00 for the
microchip and i have to send in 12.00 for the lifetime registration. I feel
better since i have him chipped. now i need to get bebe and pepper done.
