Shaq

There was a male Min Pin posted to the list about a week or so ago. I
spoke to the owner tonight, and she feels that they really need to do
something soon. He is suffering from mourning the death of his playmate. He
is not good with children and needs a home with other dogs. She is going to
talk with her husband and get back to me later in the week. It looks like I
am going to have to go get this little guy......but we need to find him a
home. I will take him until we can find him a home, since I am the closest.
I am not sure how my Min Pin will do with another one in the house.......but
we will see. This little boy is neutered and has papers. He is housebroken
to go outside. I wasn't sure about where to get release papers for the owners
to sign......can you advise? The owner is very concerned about him finding a
good home and was going to try to keep him until we found him one..........the
lead I had on a home for him fell through. The owners are now feeling that
they need him to go somewhere......he is becoming increasingly difficult. Liz
or Petie.......can you email me and tell me what to do and how you all want
this to take place? I have never taken an owner turn in before......I have
just transported or fostered overnite and a few for a few weeks. I deal
mostly in abandoned dogs in my area, so this is new territory for me.

<<Hi Heather - I will send you all the paperwork you need today as far as
release forms and adoption contracts. Do you have a crate to keep him in? If not,
please get one, maybe the owner has one she will give with the dog. That will help
a lot with fostering...Trust me on this! Second - I've gone through the
available homes, and the only one I thought was close enough without children is
Terri in NC. I'll work with Petie on contacting her and will also see if there are
any new homes in the area that we haven't put up yet.
I have an extra crate, as well as a fenced in area that is not occupied right
now. The owners says she has never crated him. My Rudy is usually pretty
friendly with other dogs. He plays with my bigger dogs outside in their lot
several times a week, it is when they come in the house that he sometimes gets
upset....but now always. He is a little strange, spoiled and hard to read
sometimes.......and that is my fault LOL he is just my little baby
boy......but I think they will be ok. I was planning to take him to pick Shaq
up....to see how they do (thanks for reminding me of it) and Ii do have Katie
as a bakc up if it doesn't appear good......and she will be within driving
distance for me as well

I spoke to the owner again tonight. Shaq was seen by a vet 2 days ago and
was given a clean bill of health. She said the vet checked for anything that
would be causing him pain......nothing found. She said the vet also put him
on something to calm him down (maybe that new drug for anxiety?) and she said
he is doing better. She cannot decide if she wants him to go to a foster
home......or wait untila home comes availiable......since we need to evaluate
the dog........I really need to get him.......now trying to convince her of
this is another story.........I told her tonight that it is better if I was to
take him in to foster since we could see how he does with the other dogs
etc....etc. and that it is easier to find him a home if we know more about
him and that we cannot tell someone about a dog we haven't seen etc etc
she wants me to call her back Sat and maybe decide something then. I can go
get this dog Sunday if need be........I need help on how to help her make the
decision to let me take him instead of dragging out this whole thing adn then
calling me at the last minute and saying he has to go now......so any ideas on
how to approach this with her on Sat would be appreciated :-)

Hi all. Well, I was just informed that the little ourning male, Shaq, has
found a home in Ohio. We are trying to arrange transport for him. Hopefully
Katie will be able to get him from the owners since she is much closer than I
am. Since he is going to Ohio, I thought it would be silly for me to go 5
hours north to get him and then bring him to Tennessee. So, if anyone can
help with transporting this little guy from KY to his new home, please let us
know. The owners are heartbroken that they have to give him up, but are
anxious for him to get to his new home with some play buddies.

Just thought you all would like to see a note I got from Shaq's new mom. Shaq is the rescue from KY that Heather originally
started working on, and working on, and working on...............whew, it's a good thing you have stick-to-it-iveness Heather.
When it came time for him to be turned over to IMPS to be fostered until his new home was found, it turned out that Heather
was 5 hours away but Katie was only 2 hours away. Soooo....Katie picked him up and kept him until his new mom and dad
came to get him last Wednesday. They seem to be thrilled with Shaq - see the copy below. She also sent me a picture of
Shaq, but I can't send it to the list. If anyone wants to see it, please let me know privately.

Hi Katie!!
My baby Shaq is doing fine! It was good to hear from you! Sounds like
you are keeping busy with the rescue thing! I CAN not begin to tell you
what an angel my Shaq is!! He fits right in with my other 2 girls. He is
definately MY dog though. He likes my husband and all, but he is always
with me. I can not tell you how much this little guy means to me! I LOVE
HIM!! Well, better go for now. I'm attaching a cute picture of him that
I took with my digital camera. It just so happened that when I took the
picture.... he stuck out his little tongue!! Look at how precious he is!!!! = )

You said you don't know how your Min Pin will do with another in the house.
Is she dog friendly outside of the house? What I would suggest, is when you go
to get this pup, have someone take your dog and meet you and the new one in a
neutral area, park, parking lot, whatever. Let them sniff each other out
and see what happens from there. That'll give you a good indication of how things
will work out, but it's not a definite way, hence why you need the crate!
Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll get those forms out to
you today.
Thanks Heather for taking this on!

I would have never guessed I could fall in love with something so quickly! Shaq is an absolute doll! He is
settled right in and my girls have already gotten used to him. I just can't get over how sweet he is. I took him
to Super Pets today and got him some new toys and bones to chew on! I will send you a better picture of him
when I get them developed, this is just a Polaroid shot! Isn't he the cutest??? He was definitely worth the drive! :-) My husband also agrees! I got him one of those tag
things you write the info on and then put it in the oven and it shrinks down, so we did that this evening and he
is wearing it proudly! He is official Shaq Rush!
I will keep in touch!
