IMPS: Min Pin in need of new home

Tue, 19 Jan 1999 12:16:20 EST - from Robin

Hi everyone! I got this off another list and thought I would send it on. I posted a note to the address that it came from but at this point I'm not sure if it is the right address. If it is, she should be contacting someone soon as I sent her the IMPS website address and asked her to contact the closest person to her.

Robin & the Rocking M bunch

<<Hello,
I have been fortunate enough to be the owner (ownee?), of a wonderful female minpin. However, I have a one year old son who is developing asthma and allergies. Unfortunately this means I must find a new home for Tasha. She is 10 years old, fixed, housebroken, although she will use papers and needs to be let out late at nite. She is great with kids, puts up with anything, but doesn't especially like her feet touched. She is very energetic, what minpin isn't? :~)
She has been around cats, kids, birds. Loves to go for walks, is great on a leash, stops at corners and waits to be told to go. Tasha is very smart and knows something is wrong, and my son is getting worse every day, I have to use a nebulizer for him 3 times a day now. Please let me know asap if you can help me. I would appreciate any ideas you have as to where I can find a good home for her. I have asked everyone I know and no one is in a position to take her. Since she won't be able to go to someone I know I'd at least like her to go to someone who will appreciate her breed. She is not show quality except to me, being 16 inches high, so she is quite oversize, which is nice, she isn't as fragile. She only has dry dog food, lamb and rice, and she has a wonderful shiny coat and enjoys playing ball, would play all day if you had the energy. Well, I guess I've rambled enough, any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Tasha

Sun, 31 Jan 1999 17:13:32 -0500 - from Rick

Just in case anyone is interested, Tasha, the 9 1/2 year old 16 inch Pin is not going to California. I was unaware of this transfer for that distance with a dog that has never been crated and have talked to the lady and Tasha will come here and I will foster until a home closer can be found.

Tasha

Sun, 7 Feb 1999 15:32:22 -0500 - from Rick

Tasha is here now and she is an absolute doll.
Her energy level is on an even basis with Brisket and she obeys real well, is totally housebroken and has already melded in with Brisket and Sweetie.
Someone is missing a lot of fun with a super dog so I hope this impending placement goes well before I get too attached and get myself in trouble.
She will be into my Vet on Thursday morning for a complete shot upgrade and I started her Heartgard Plus and Top Spot today.

My first day with a Min Pin - the beautiful Tasha

Sun, 7 Feb 1999 19:45:36 -0500 - from Joyce

As I have been a member of the list for several months now, I have learned so much regarding the life and love of Min Pins. I certainly do not know everything by a long shot and being a GSD owner, I know I have only a life time to hear every story, every happening and every opportunity to gain more and more knowledge about these bundles of energy. With all this wisdom (I thought) I was prepared for my first attempt to take Tasha from her owners, keep her one night and then transport her to her foster holding, our dear beloved Yabatz, Rick.

I am the happy owner of Maxine, a well trained 3 year old GSD. She is the love of my life and I have spent the last year and a half trying to become the ALPHA in her life. This meant special training with a local dog trainer and long hours of No, Sit, Stay, don't eat that couch, and please remember this is my bed. Her love of life is playing Frisbie and going for rides in my car. I have a none skid bathroom rug covering my leather seats and she has learned the back seat is hers and she is there to stay for the duration of the ride; for safety reasons there is no further discussion here and she knows that. All the above information is a pre-empt to the below short story of my first day alone with a Min Pin - the beautiful Tasha.

After spending time Saturday morning with the previous owner getting the papers signed and placing all the Tasha belongings in my car, I took a slow ride from Marshall, VA to my home which was a 30 minute drive. During this time, Tasha sat in the FRONT seat passenger side on a blanket I had retrieved from the trunk of my car. She spent her time looking out the window, smiling and eargerly receiving all the pets I was giving her along the way. I found a large grassy area along route 55 with some trees down, so we stopped and got out and played, talked and hugged our way into a bond of "I'm ok, you're ok"; I have always been a dog lover and I instantly knew I could fall in love with this one as quickly as anyone of you have posted in your rescue notes. Shortly thereafter, I was pulling into my driveway and as I have always done everyday of my life, stopped the car to trott to the mailbox and retrieve my paper and mail before driving the rest of the way to the garage. I closed the car door and as my right foot made first contact with the tarmack, I heard the quiet CLICK of my car door locks. There stood Tasha in the drivers seat with her little paw on top of the window lock, looking at me with this I Love you Joyce look. It took about one mili-second for my brain to kick in here; the Honda sitting in park with the emergency brake on, purring in its quiet manner, the heat on low and Yani playing on the cd player, my purse with my second set of car keys and HOUSE keys sitting in the back seat with Tasha's doggy stuff and I was OUTSIDE looking IN. I could feel my blond hair in the back of my neck standing up and moving like running a magnetic degauser over a light weight metal filament as the fear of what had happened sifted through every inch of me.

I immediately jumped out of my clogs (which look nice, but do nothing for running) and ran to each outside door hoping just once I had left a door un-locked, but to no avail. I left a key with my neighbor shortly after moving in this house, and to get the key I had to embark in going up their long driveway, knowing very well that 1 of their 2 dogs (rotty mix) did not like me or Maxine. No one answered the first 10 bangs on their door except the 2 dogs, which was a relief as I laid the only rock I could find on my way up the driveway as if it would have been any help. As no one answered, I turned to go back to the car and getting half way to the driveway where my car was, I heard someone yell, Joyce we are here. Words from heaven. With key in hand, contacts floating in an excess of water, I raised my eyes to the sunshine and said, THANKS.

I love Min-Pins! Joyce

Tasha's adoption

Tue, 16 Feb 1999 18:18:27 -0500 - from Petie

I apologize because I forgot to mention that Rick found Tasha (the 10 yr young female) a marvelous new home.
Its with an older lady who is a friend of his Aunts in Virginia and apparently it was love at first sight for both of them. Tasha is getting to go everywhere with her new mistress all day and is having her section of their bed arranged carefully every evening with pillows and blankets....only to have Tasha end up in the crook of her neck in the morning.
We shouldn't have worried about placing an older Min Pin....it just took some time and patience and thanks to Rick for its turning out so very well.
