Hi Mag,
I am writing b/c every now and again I look around the IMPS website to see if there are any local Min Pins that need a good home. The last couple of months I have noticed a growing number that have special needs and was compelled to write about our experience. I think a lot of people shy away from dogs with any special needs and so I am hopeful our story will help change the mindset of others.
I adopted a red female, Annie, in Sept '07 from IMPS Pa/NJ and worked with Jessica N. Annie was a special needs dog and we were able to get her off all her meds (3 different pills) in a matter of months by ensuring her diet was full of all natural dog food and nutritional treats. She was found on the streets of Trenton, NJ, had mange and was skin and bones when we got her. Annie enjoys her crate (it's her safe haven) and has to sleep there at night b/c she has an overactive bladder, but aside from that she has been a great addition to our family. She is still the only one in the pack that can be walked off the leash and will not run. Annie use to be very timid, on the defense, and afraid of everything, but over time she became a very loving, affectionate girl and embraces any opportunity to give hugs. The vet she started with while in Jessica's care had a muzzle note in her file b/c she bit a couple of employees and today, no muzzle is needed! It was also recommended by IMPS that Annie be the only dog w/no kids in the house and I am happy to report we had Wesley first, followed by Annie and then Joey and she loves her brothers as well as the kids in the family. The moral of our story is don't shy away from a Min Pin with behavior problems and/or medical problems b/c they need us more than words can describe and you can teach an old dogs new tricks with lots of love and attention!
We have three min pins all together; Wesley adopted via PetFinder and Joey who we consider our "oops" and rescued him from a mall pet store that me and my family don't care for b/c we believe some, or possibly, all of the dogs come from puppy mills. We live in a well known area for puppy mills, Lancaster County, PA. If I had the time and money I would have a shelter of my own :-)
Thanks for your time and all that you do for the breed!

Please take to time to view the attached pics of my 1 year old Killer. I adopted him from the local shelter and he is a ham for the camera. If I take a picture of anything but him he runs into the shot. He loves to dress up as well. That means either pictures or bye bye.
The picture of him in the raincoat was taken by a local paper photographer and picked up by IP. It has made papers all the way to Japan.
Thanks,

Hey Paula,
Things are really going great with Jade and Dino as a new "couple." Dino is really starting to grow fond of her company and trying to play "chase" her for fun. Jade is also starting to pick up toys to try and spark his attention or the attention of one of the adults. This is really working out how I had envisioned/hoped and I wanted to say thanks again. I don't know if I sent you this, but here are some recent cute photos I took of the two of them.
P.S. - I always catch Jade sneaking kisses to Dino, which he starts to play and wag his tail (stub)!! ; )
Jade also met my sister's dog "Rocky" the other day, which Rocky LOVES her!! He is an "only child" at home, so he loves to have "play dates" with Dino and Jade. Thanks again!!

Hello Mag,
We adopted Roxy thru IMPS in April of 2005. It was love at first site for me when her Foster Mom brought her to our home to visit.... the Cats and the rest of our family.
She right away found the new bed I placed out for her and we found out she is not into.. puppy stuff like toys (Definiately a grown up girl). It's been a pleasure to have her with us. She used to bark at everyone when we got her, when we went on walks she was way out of control, barking at every person, dog, squirrel or the worst yet skateboarders I live next to a community college and so I took her at night when the people were few to get started on the training. Roxy progressed quickly and soon after daily walks was advanced to weekend days and now is able to walk among campus when school is on and busy. Its wonderful, as she gets many comments on her beauty and stunning looks. She adorns many surfer girl tanks and in the cool she has pretty sweaters to show off, and she does too.
She was a bit chubby when we got her but as all true minpin owners know they could eat and eat but their weight is important to maintain. Her foster Mom already had her on a diet of reduced comsumtion and she is still on watchful eating and now is a healthy gorgeous Min Pin of 8 years.I save out some pieces of her twice daily feeding and use that as "treats" to reward her for being good and doing tricks.
She loves to give us hugs and carrots are one of her favorite treats. I want to thank who ever gave her up as she was a good natured dog from a family it seems who could no longer take care of her and their new baby too. She was a gift to us and she sleeps with me every night and has every blanket in the house ready to snuggle under when we change rooms. I feel lucky and blessed for Roxy with back problems 5 years ago, she has helped me to heal and gave me a reason to walk. My husband has been walking her these days and he enjoys it daily too.
Roxy is our angel and we love her dearly. Oh and the cats... they all are friends now, it took about a month of room separation but we are one big happy family.
Much Love to IMPS, Roxy and her Mom and Dad,
PS. I had to send one more pic of Roxy who is our Forever MinPin and Foster thru IMPS in April 2005
This is one of my fav pics as it shows her funny personality and how cute she is oh yes and truely stunning beauty.
"You see I am wearing my IMPS tag to keep me safe still. (I never run out of bolt from the door, I was taught to wait for my parents first. Love Roxy)"

Hi there!!
I have just recently come across your website and I thought that I would send a couple of pictures of our sweet littel boy Milo. Milo is about 1 1/2 years old and he came to our home as a rescue as well. He was with someone who just could not care for him the way that he needed andwe immediately decided as a family that he needed to be here with us.
Milo means the world to us and I couldn't imagine not having him here. He has been an absolute awesome addition to our family.
Thanks for the great work that you do...

Hello again everyone. The last time I wrote I had pictures of Kobi and Chloe (the cat) and Kobi visiting the beach during spring break. Since then there has been another addition to our little family. Kobi and I were at the doggie Disneyland (also known as PetSmart) and there was an adoption event going on. There was one little gal that caught my eye, and eventually my heart. She was a puppy mill rescue. She had been one of the breeding dogs. We just celebrated her 3rd birthday, and she is learning everyday about life outside a wire cage. Anyway, I thought I would send a picture of Kobi (rather large ears) and Bitsy at the dog park. They tend to be 'benchwarmers' and wait for people to sit down and let them have a lap to snuggle on.
Take care everyone,
Sharell, Chloe, Kobi, and Bitsy in Seattle

I adopted a dog about 4 to 5 years ago.Her name was daisey. She was the sweetest kindest dog ever.I live here in washington and she was given to us because she was rescued from the side of the highway.I still remember the phonevcall i got from my moms friend about daisey. We had been looking for a family oriented dog and well daisey was just perfect the day we met her.when we first brought her home she would go flying off the top if our couch and she was the fastest dog i had ever seen. we were soo scared she was going to hurt herself.but it was soon to find out that it was very normal of dogs to be that way.Days turn to weeks and weeks turned to months with this dog.Which soon turned to years. She was the sweetest dog ever. She used to jump and pull the branches off our tree in the backyard it was the cutest thing ever.I still remember taking her for walks all the time and her snuggleing real close to me under the blankets.she was the strongest dog i knew she just thought she was sooo tough she tryed to fight the bigger dogs. She was very protective over my family and whenever there was fighting in the household she would bark to try to get everyone to stop. She always comforted someone when they were crying trying to make sure that they were alright. Then there were soo many times where she would get out the front door and just run and run cause she thought it was a game. She was the sweest dog. My favorite part of her was when i would bring my boyfriends home and i knewvwhen she did not like them. She would growl like no other at them and it would turn out they were complete jerks. Then there were the ones she absolutely fell in love with and they turned out to be amzeing.she was an over all great dog.But on July 27. 2009 she got out of our house like a normal day we got a treat and tryed to lowert her back to the house. That was when she ran into the street and was hit by a car and killed instantly.I cryed my eyes out and i have for a few days now because i remember all the great things about her.Its hard comeing home and not seeing her standing right in front of the door and jumping on me.Or when i would leave for school her sitting in my window.I miss her alot. But i know that she lived a great life and was an absolutely amazeing dog.I have to say out of all the pets i have ever had she was the most friendly and my best friend.I miss her alot.I haveto say Minpins are the overall bet pets u could have.Thank You for letting her live her life with us.

My family and I adopted Ruby last May 2008 from Joe and Kelli of Staten Island, NY. We loved her from the minute we saw her. My main concern was how our Manchester Terrier, Guinness was going to accept her. Guinness had been the only dog in the family and had been spoiled rotten from 4 months old. She has not only won Guinness' heart but ours as well. Now we have 2 spoiled rotten dogs!
Kelli and Joe have been to my home numerous times and have been very helpful in trying to help us help Ruby. We have also found great friends in Kelli and Joe. I applaud their dedication and the work they do. I wish I could do it myself.
Ruby went from living in a crate to a castle; it doesn't matter that she sometimes barks a lot due to anxiety. How anyone could have given her up is their loss and our gain. She is so sweet and gets lots of kisses all day and night and she just loves it!
Sincerely,
Rose and Family

Hi Mag,
Juliana
Hi Juliana,
Bug has finished his novice training and is now going on into advanced.. I take him with me everywhere. Yesterday we went into Lowe's and he had a wonderful time being petted by everyone in there.
I've attached a picture of him with his brothers. He wants to know if you can post it on your website since he is an "attention hog," We love Bug - he sleeps with us everynight and is the cuddlest dog imaginable - and SMART too! Once he finishes his Good Citizenship training we'll start seeing if we can get him involved with volunteer work since he loves giving kisses and getting hugs.
Thanks again,

Diva is doing well with us in her new home in California. Bandit has taken to her and protects her, it is so cute. We go to the dog park every other day or so and Diva just loves running with the other dogs. She met a min pin about her size the other and they ran until she couldn't run anymore. Tom and I went to Disneyland and we couldn't take the kids with us, so they went to doggie day camp. Everyone there fell in love with them and said that they were great. Well here are some pictures of her.

In 2002, I was just a pudgy Red Min Pin in search of someone who would love me and not terrorize me with kids and vacuums. After spending a few weeks with a foster family, I found a lovely human and her Cocker to take me in. I was a hefty 22 lbs when I moved in with Dj and promptly made myself at home. It seems I found the right human to spoil me, take me for runs and had a great buddy in my adopted Cocker Brother to tear around the house with. Unfortunately, 6 months later my buddy died from an unexpected bout with Pneumonia. I settled into being the only dog moderately well, Mom gave me a lot of extra attention, a Special Couch to sit in and indulged my love of clothes with the latest polos and bandanas. Mom loves to take me traveling and out to my favorite place in the world, Pet smart. We even went through all the training classes there, I loved clicker training. Three years ago, mom got me a sister, a Boxer mix, to keep me company and out of trouble. She learned quickly I was in charge and bathes me every morning and night before we curl up in mom's room to sleep. Mom takes me on daily walks which has slimmed me down to a nice trim 16 lbs. She also made me a shady spot in the rock garden out back which is my favorite place to be on nice sunny days. I even am an unofficial mascot for my mom's derby team and get to come to practices and games. All the girls take turns picking me up and petting me for luck, I love derby. At the ripe age of 11, I have plenty of spunk left, and places to travel too. I can't wait!

Hudson is doing great! I assure you he is happy and well loved. He loves his 2 mile walk each morning.
You would be surprised at how simple the adjusting has been so far. Guess we three have fallen in love. We are allowing plenty of time for the adjustment with our cat Foxy - then we will be a foursome in love. They both are curious and we allow nose to nose contact when we are holding them. Right now they know each other and they look across the room at each other but we aren't rushing their exchange. It will unfold naturally.
Oh - Hudson has no food issues but then he doesn't have to share his feast with other dogs. He eats right in the kitchen with us and takes his healthy treats right out of our hands.
He loves our drives. Believe me - he is thriving with all the attention he is receiving. He especially loves his lap time which actually is quite extensive.
We took him to our vet on Tuesday. He checked him from his nose to the tip of his tail - all was well.
I am very impressed with your rescue organization and the wonderful caring people I have encountered during the process.
Blessings,
Ruth & Jim

Sport is a love, very cuddly and vocal. He has some new toys to play with and does enjoy his playtime. He has fallen out of his bed (bed is on the floor) a couple of times and the look on his face was hilarious. Jackson and Sport are at times like a couple of teenage boys jealous of the attention the other is receiving and let one another know with their growls. Jackson is not a real playful one, but at times does plat a little with Sport; they do follow one another outside. We know Sport can never be off leash outside, he is so inquisitive out there and very alert to the different sounds.
Rich and I are happy that Sport is with us, he is a great addition to our family.
Will keep you posted with new photos.

Adopted 5-12-09 at age 6 years, Chiffon has come into our home with love and health. Now a sister to Roxie who I adopted from IMPS also. Chiffon is healthy, happy and glad to be in a forever home with her very own sister. The girls are the same in age and great family pets, they are growing on each other slowly but content with each other for now. I definately see them becoming the best of friends. Thank you IMPS once again for a wonderful little girl!

I thought you might like to read this speech. Emma is the 10 year old daughter of the family that adopted Dexter. She wrote this speech for school as if it was Dexter talking – very cute. The pictures are not included but by the speech you get a really good idea of what the pictures are like!
Enjoy.
Carol
Today, I would like to share a story with you...it's a rescue story and it's my rescue story.
First of all, I should introduce myself. My name is Dexter and I am 2 year old Miniature Pincher - Min Pin for short. Everyone calls dogs like me, the King of the Toys. I like being called a King.
Anyway...back to the rescue story. My human's name is Emma and I came to live with her in Port Dover about 9 months ago. I used to live in Toronto, but unfortunately, I went outside one day and I got lost and couldn't find my way back to my house.
Some people who run a shelter for lost animals picked me up. Here's a picture of me at the shelter. I was really scared. It sure doesn't look like me now. My backbone and ribs were sticking out and I had to sleep on a cement floor...brrrr...it was cold.
Luckily, someone at the shelter knew about the Min Pin Rescue Society and a really nice lady named Ruth came and picked me up. She lived in Ottawa and I stayed with her for a few weeks. I was still a little sad, because I really wanted to find my forever home.
Then one day Ruth put me in my crate and drove me in the car for a very long time. We ended up in Brantford and stayed for a short time at the home of a really nice lady named, Carol. She owned two other Min Pin dogs and I had fun playing with them. But then there was a knock at the door and that's when I met my human, Emma. I knew as soon as I met her that I had found my forever home. So, I went back into a crate and we drove to a town called Port Dover.
WOW...I love Port Dover. There's a beach and Emma has a boat. I love that boat. Here's a picture of me wearing my life jacket on the boat. Life jackets are very important.
I have a secret to tell you...(look around) I don't know how to swim. My life jacket has a handle on the top of it and Emma gets a real kick out of holding me closer to the water, because the closer to the water I get, the faster all 4 of my legs pedal and the farther I get away, the slower my legs pedal. I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSELF! Ya, ya...really funny.
I have something to brag about. Emma entered me in a dog show at the Turkeypoint Summer Festival. And you guessed it...I won first place. Here's my ribbon and a picture of us. There were a lot of really big dogs at that dog show. Even though I'm only 8 pounds, in my mind, I'm 100-and 8 pounds and I'm the biggest dog in the world. Work with me people - I'm small, but I'm mighty!!
I sure do miss the warm weather though. I don't like the winter. You see, I don't have much hair - less than a cat. But Emma knows what to do. She says that I have more clothes than her Build-a-Bear!
Before Emma takes me out for a walk, she puts on my sweatshirt, then my jacket and then...the worst part of all...my winter boots. The first time I wore them, Emma couldn't stop laughing. She says when I walk with my boots on, I'm high steppin' it! I really don't think it's that amusing.
There's one thing I forgot to tell you. I only have 3 feet. On my back right leg, I only have a stump - no toes. Emma calls it my nubbie and she always makes sure that it doesn't get scratched or too cold in the snow. She's a great human.
Speaking about being a great human, Emma takes me for a walk every day. I love going for walks. We King of the Toys have a lot of energy!
One of the things I love to do best is bark at the window. Sometimes when Emma is watching t.v., I'll hear a dog, so I run to the window and bark my head off.
Emma tells me it's only on t.v., but I know I'm protecting her. She seems to think it's funny. Hmmmm....I'll get that dog one day.
Speaking of something that's not very funny, we Min Pin's have very brittle bones. Our legs can get broken if we jump too high or too hard.
But, at the end of the day, I love to snuggle under the covers in bed with Emma. You see, Min Pin's were originally bred to be bed warmers for Kings and Queens.
So, my rescue story is a happy one. I've found my forever home. But, I have lots of friends still waiting for theirs. So, why don't you visit your local shelter. You never know...there may be a dog waiting there, just like me.

I have got to tell you that I just found this page and have loved
reading the stories! I have one of my own to add about Min Pin's.
I have a baby boy (well he's 3 now, lol) named "Boomer". Boomer came
to us in a very unusual way and I don't even have room to explain it,
just unusual. I was not looking for a dog let alone a Min Pin because
every min pin I had known seemed to have a really bad disposition and I
would not have gone out looking for one. But let me tell you something.
I have had this little guy (who is actually not that little, he is at
least 22 lbs.) since he was 7 weeks old, and I can't imagine my life
without him.
I have never had a dog that makes me so happy in my entire 40 years of
life and I have never had a dog with such a great personality. I swear
this dog understands every single word I say and talks to me and my
husband all the time!! (He has us well trained..lol) He has slept in
bed with us since day one that he came home with my husband and is total
little lover boy wanting to be with us all of the time and on our laps
constantly. I have never, ever, had a dog that was so smart and
loveable in my life! He has me hooked from now on and when we adopt
again, we will definately be looking for another red min pin.
Here are some pictures of my guy and we are so proud of him! We do
laugh however because he is nothing like what the book says they should
be, there is not a brave bone in his poor little body! lol!! But he is
perfect!!
Thanks!!

Hi Brandy!
I just wanted to send you a note and thank you for all your help and coordination of getting Mary to us. We absolutely love her! Andrew took this picture about an hour after we got home! She did great for the 3 hour car trip, ran around the house up and down the stairs checking it all out, finally crashing in my lap for a nap!
She is so quiet and well mannered. We were afraid she could't talk (which would't have mattered to us) but I took her out right before dark and a big bunny was in the yard and she barked at the bunny! I walked her down to meet my Mom and Dad, and my friend Barbara who you talked to, brought her kids and came to meet her, too. I fed her before we ate and then she got in her bed while we ate dinner- did't beg at all- I just ca't believe how perfect she is!
I'll stay in touch, but just wanted to thank you and everyone involved in her care what a wonderful girl she is and we will take good care of her- She is and will continue to be spoiled!
Thanks again!

Last August, (2008), we were ask if we would be willing to take a minpin
in our home, at least until a permanent home could be found for her. A
member of our church knew I loved animals and this little dog had taken
up residence on their front porch for over two weeks. I checked with
local vets, newspapers, shelters, police etc., but no one had inquired
about their missing pet and she didn't have a chip. At that point, I
decided she was ours, along with the fleas and the "unknown". She has
turned out to be a wonderful new addition and has been accepted,
eventually, by Phoebe the cat, and Rembrandt, the cockatiel. She loves
taking showers, sleeping in the sun and watching for the squirrels, but
food is her passion, probably because she is afraid she will be without,
(but she won't). She gets so excited when my grandson is home from
college; she is with him the whole time he is around. I probably should
not have sent so many pics, but each were defining moments in her
willingness to make this her home, and we are so glad we have her.

Hi Mag,
I was wondering if you could post this picture of my Reggie on the website.
Our big man went over the bridge on March 11. He was 13 years old. We miss
him terribly. He was in our family for all of his 13 years. I never had a
dog quite like him. He was my first Min Pin and every day he made us laugh
or just brought a smile to our faces. I still cannot believe he is gone.
Hope you are doing well.

It has been awhile since I posted - probably since the untimely death
of my beloved Sweet P. I finally decided to add to my 'family' and
that little gal would be Kobi (Japanese for small beauty). She joins
her feline big sister, Chloe. During the spring break, Kobi and I went
to Westport, WA (on the coast) and as you can see, she holds a big
dream of joining one of the 'Deadliest Catch' crews. *tee hee hee*
Take care all,

The first pic is Belle (TinkerBelle as an 18lb 8-9 wk old pup). I think I already sent it but she's so darned cute! Next is her refusing to realize how big she's gotten (65-70lbs). Finally is the family photo... well minus Sabrina the springer who's in Oregon with her "daddy"...
Bart doesn't care about the spotlight, Belle is already sure she's a star and Buster's wondering why SHE gets all the attention!

Hello Mag
Been several years since I posted pictures. It was with a very heavy heart that I announce the passing of my beloved Spike.
Spike came to me as a foster back in 2001. He was a grumpy old guy known to bark for hours but I loved him and was blessed to call him my own
Thanks

Hi Mag ~ I just wanted to let you know that Bella passed away in late January. Dave and I are heartbroken but could no longer allow her to suffer. Bella fought a brave battle with her health since May 2005. She was small but tough and put up a long and courageous fight.
Bella would have been 11-years old in May. She was with us since she was 16-weeks old. Bella owned our hearts and we'll always miss her. No one can ever fill the void she's left in our life.
Goodbye our Gorgeous Girl, our Best Girl, our Ella Bella .... wait for us at the bridge.
Sadly and through tears,
